Midland College Golf Expected to Contend for 2018 NJCAA Championship

The Midland College golf team opens play in the 2018 NJCAA Golf Championships beginning on Tuesday in Lubbock, TX at the Texas Tech University Rawls Course (7,207 yards, par 72). The Rawls Course is a “Troon” styled golf course and is ranked as one of Texas’ finest.
Midland College enters the tournament ranked #2 according to www.golfstat.com and njcaa.org. The Chaps, are coached by Walt Williams who has built his career on improving teams at each of his career posts, including stints at University Louisiana-Monroe, Sam Houston State University and Washington State University.
The Chaps have won eight team events this year with an average adjusted score of 72.80, including, the Southwest Junior College Championships and the WJCAC Tournament. MC finished in second place at the NJCAA District 2 Championships that was held at Rawls April 16th and 17th.
The Chaps are expected to field a very strong team, led by 2017 NJCAA All-American Michael Salazar (El Paso, TX) and freshman standout, Callum Bruce (Banff, Scotland, UK). Also expected to play in the event are redshirt freshman, Chris Ayers (Wethersfield, CT); sophomore, Tommy Parker (Argyle, TX) along with freshmen Alex Motes (Sulphur Springs, TX) and Bailey Knoll (Golf Coast, Australia).
The NJCAA Men’s Division I Golf Championship is a 72-hole (four round) event featuring the best 21 teams in the nation among two-year colleges. Strong contenders for the team title are Indian Hills CC (IA), Central Alabama, Dodge City CC (KS), as well as, McLennan CC (TX), Odessa (TX) and Western Texas.
Scores updated every six holes and at the end of each round.
