2018 NJCAA Men's Division I All-District 2 Team and Coach of the Year

The honors for members of the 2018 golf team are only just beginning to come in, with three members and the coach earning their way onto the NJCAA Men's Division I Golf All-District 2 team.

MC sophomore Michael Salazar (El Paso, TX) was the top selection to the team after his stellar play over the 108 hole gauntlet that includes the NJCAA District 2, the Southwest Juco and the WJCAC tournaments.

Salazar shot a combined score of 565 (5th place in the District 2 69-74-74--217 [+1], 1st place in the Southwest JC 70-67-73--210 [-6] and 6th WJCAC 70-68--138 [-2]) to finish as the top overall player over eight rounds, played at three separate courses.

Joining Salazar on the All-District 2 team is Chap freshman Callum Bruce (Banff, Scotland, UK) who finished in second place overall over the 108 holes and redshirt freshman Chris Ayers (Wethersfield, CT) who finished in 6th place overall.

Midland College golf coach Walt Williams was named 2018 NJCAA Men's Division I District 2 Coach of the Year. Williams, in his first year at the helm of the Chaps, has guided the team to several impressive tournament victories this spring, including winning the Southwest Junior College Championship and the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Championship team titles.

The Chaps, ranked #2 nationally, in both the NJCAA Men's Division I and according to Golfstat.com's rankings.

Midland College will next be in action at the 2018 NJCAA Division Men's Division I Golf Championships May 14-18th at the Texas Tech University Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock, TX.
