The Midland College golf team got the fall semester off to a great start after winning the 2019 Andrews College/Amateur Invitational. The 36 hole College/Amateur was played at the Andrews County Golf Course (par 72, 6816 yards).
Competing teams included Odessa College, Western Texas College, McLennan Community College, Wayland Baptist University, the University of Texas - Permian Basin and the Chaparrals.
The Chaps sat in second place with a first round team score of 272 (-16), trailing Odessa College's 268 (-20). MC was led by sophomore Luke Cooley's first round score of 66 (-6).
Sunday's second round team score 270 (-18) allowed the Chaparrals to pull away from the field with a 36 hole team score of 542 (-34) followed by Odessa College's 558 (-18) and Western Texas College's 559 (-17).
MC freshman JT Pittman of Monahans, who shot a first round 71 (-1), recorded a second round score of 64 (-8) for a 36 hole total 135 (-9) to win the individual medalist honors.
Midland College sophomore Aadam Syed shot 68-68--136 (-8) and finished in a tie for third place. Freshman Josef Hacker and returning sophomore Max Charles each shot 139 (-5) over two rounds finishing in a tie for sixth place.
Sophomores George Saunders and Cooley rounded out the Midland College tournament team, recording scores of 140 (-4) and 147 (+3). Saunders finished tied for ninth while Cooley finished 31st individually in the event.
Midland College golf returns to tournament play September 22-23, 2019 in the High Country Shootout in Ruidoso, NM. The Shootout will be played at the Links at Sierra Blanca course.
