BASEBALL: MC beats Murray State

MIDLAND, TEXAS - Cameron Dayton's sacrifice fly scored Tyler Wulfert in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Midland College baseball team to a wild 17-16 non-conference victory over Murray State College on a windy Saturday at Christensen Stadium.

MC (9-6) had a 16-9 lead in the seventh inning evaporate when Murray State scored seven runs in the frame to tie it up.

The Chaparrals, who took both games in the series, had 16 hits in the game, led by Tyler Wulfert, who was 4-for-6 with a double, triple, two RBI and three runs scored. Garrett Williams was 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored; Zack Swindell hit a grand slam in the fifth inning; while Jarred Gibson, Colby Standard and Chris Garcia added two hits each.

Luis Rodriguez got the win in relief as he struck out four and didn't allow a hit over 1 2/3 shutout innings.

Chase Keeton was 3-for-6 with five RBI for Murray State and was a single away from hitting for the cycle.
