BASEBALL: MC Chaparral Hot Streak Continues, Earns Top 20 Ranking
The Midland College baseball team, currently riding an eight-game WJCAC win streak (19 wins in their last 21 games) cracked the NJCAA Division I Baseball Top 20 poll for the first time this season.

MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Midland College baseball team, currently riding an eight-game WJCAC win streak (19 wins in their last 21 games) cracked the NJCAA Division I Baseball Top 20 poll for the first time this season. The Chaparrals, 25-8 overall and 15-1 in conference, are the #17 ranked team in the most recent NJCAA DI Baseball Poll (April 12, 2021).
Midland College enters a critical portion of the season with a four-game series versus Howard College. Howard College is currently 27-9 on the season and 10-2 in the WJCAC race.
MC will host Howard College in a double-header on Friday, April 16 beginning at noon. Then on Saturday, April 17 the Chaps travel to Big Spring for a second double-header, games three and four of the series, also scheduled for noon first pitch. Friday's double-header is the final two home conference games of the 2021 season.
The Chaparrals have several team members who are ranked among the top 50 statistical leaders in the NJCAA Division I.
Those individuals are:
- Tyler Wulfert: 29th in runs (45), 25th in total hits (53), 3rd in triples (6), 44th in total bases (85) and 35th in double plays (16)
- Garrett Williams: 24th in defensive assists (75) and 16th in double plays (18)
- Jared Gibson: 24th in total chances (238), 46th in put outs (195) and 40th in runners caught stealing (8)
- Cameron Dayton: 40th in doubles (12) and 11th in double plays (19)
- Chris Garcia: 47th in triples (3)
- Caleb Huertz: 47th in triples (3)
- Bo Blessie: 50th in strikeouts per game (12.39)
- Alizaeh Gutierrez: 36th in strikeouts per game (12-87)
The MC Chaparrals baseball team currently ranks 31st in total runs scored (311), 24th in total hits (380), 22nd in doubles (78), 15th in triples (16), 27th in RBI (279), 47th in extra base hits (120), 39th in total bases (568), 11th in batting average (.357), 36th in on base percentage (.445), 35th in slugging percentage (.534) and 37th in shutouts (3).
