BASEBALL: MC Chaparral Hot Streak Continues, Earns Top 20 Ranking

The Midland College baseball team, currently riding an eight-game WJCAC win streak (19 wins in their last 21 games) cracked the NJCAA Division I Baseball Top 20 poll for the first time this season.

MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Midland College baseball team, currently riding an eight-game WJCAC win streak (19 wins in their last 21 games) cracked the NJCAA Division I Baseball Top 20 poll for the first time this season. The Chaparrals, 25-8 overall and 15-1 in conference, are the #17 ranked team in the most recent NJCAA DI Baseball Poll (April 12, 2021).

Midland College enters a critical portion of the season with a four-game series versus Howard College. Howard College is currently 27-9 on the season and 10-2 in the WJCAC race.

MC will host Howard College in a double-header on Friday, April 16 beginning at noon. Then on Saturday, April 17 the Chaps travel to Big Spring for a second double-header, games three and four of the series, also scheduled for noon first pitch. Friday's double-header is the final two home conference games of the 2021 season.

The Chaparrals have several team members who are ranked among the top 50 statistical leaders in the NJCAA Division I.

Those individuals are:

Tyler Wulfert: 29^th in runs (45), 25^th in total hits (53), 3^rd in triples (6), 44^th in total bases (85) and 35^th in double plays (16)
Garrett Williams: 24^th in defensive assists (75) and 16^th in double plays (18)
Jared Gibson: 24^th in total chances (238), 46^th in put outs (195) and 40^th in runners caught stealing (8)
Cameron Dayton: 40^th in doubles (12) and 11^th in double plays (19)
Chris Garcia: 47^th in triples (3)
Caleb Huertz: 47^th in triples (3)
Bo Blessie: 50^th in strikeouts per game (12.39)
Alizaeh Gutierrez: 36^th in strikeouts per game (12-87)

The MC Chaparrals baseball team currently ranks 31^st in total runs scored (311), 24^th in total hits (380), 22^nd in doubles (78), 15^th in triples (16), 27^th in RBI (279), 47^th in extra base hits (120), 39^th in total bases (568), 11^th in batting average (.357), 36^th in on base percentage (.445), 35^th in slugging percentage (.534) and 37^th in shutouts (3).
