MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Midland College baseball team opened its home schedule with a pair of shutout victories over Wayland Baptist University JV at Christensen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Three Chaparral pitchers combined for a no-hitter in a 22-0 victory in the first game, then capped off the afternoon by allowing just two hits in a 13-0 victory.
Luke Young, Luis Rodriguez and Derek Klowsowski combined for the no-hitter in the opening game. Young got the win as he struck out seven and walked one over three innings. Rodriguez and Klowsowski each pitched an inning, struck out two and walked one.
Tyler Wulfert led the offense by going 2-for-3 with a double, triple, walk, six RBI and three runs scored. Ryan Blackwell was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored; Garrett Williams was 2-for-2 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and three runs scored, while Luke Bumpus and Gibrian Pena each drove in two runs.
The Chaps had 11 hits and took advantage of five errors in the second game.
Lee grad Michael Weidner was 2-for-3 with two triples, a walk, four RBI and scored two runs to lead MC. Wulfert was 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, two RBI and three runs scored; Bumpus was 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored; Chris Garcia drove in two runs; and Blackwell had a double.
Michael Lindsey got the win on the mound after he allowed one hit and struck out six over three scoreless innings.
The Chaps (5-0) next travel to face No. 1-ranked and defending national champion McLennan Community College in Waco in a doubleheader beginning at noon Friday.
