BASEBALL: Chaparrals Travel to #1 McLennan, Ranger

MIDLAND, TEXAS - After jumping off to a 5-0 start in 2022, the Chaparrals move on to an early season challenge when they travel to Waco, Texas for a Friday double-header versus #1 ranked McLennan Community College.
McLennan, who is expected to be one of the deepest and most talented teams on the MC schedule, won the 2021 NJCAA national championship, led by 2021 NJCAA National Pitcher of the Year Logan Henderson. Following the games versus McLennan CC, the Chaps will move to Ranger, Texas for a Saturday double-dip versus Ranger College.
Midland College has recorded wins versus Alvin Community College and the Wayland Baptist University JV, but the next four games will likely be the toughest two-day stretch of the season for the Chaparrals. The Chaps and McLennan Highlanders are scheduled to play at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11th at McLennan. On Saturday, February 12th the Chaps will take on the Ranger College Rangers at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Ranger.
The Highlanders are 3-3-1 in 2022 while the Rangers are currently 3-3. However the records don't tell the entire story as both teams have played difficult early season competition.
The Chaps are expected to start Luke Young in game one at McLennan. Young, the MC ace, is 2-0 this season and has recorded 18 strikeouts in eight innings of work in 2022. Offensively the Chaps will be led by Garrett Williams, Frayner Chavez and Tyler Wulfert. Williams is hitting a torrid .533 in 15 at-bats, Chavez is currently hitting .400 followed by Wulfret's .368 average. Both Young and Wulfert are Oklahoma State University signees.
