MIDLAND, TEXAS - The MC baseball team looks to place last weekend's 1-3 record in their rearview mirror as the return to historic Christensen Stadium in Midland. The Chaparrals 6-3 on the season lost a double-header at McLennan Community College on Friday and split Saturday at Ranger College. This weekend's opponents are Vernon College and Seward County Community College from Kansas.
On Friday, February 18th Midland College will host Vernon College in a double-header at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. followed by a Saturday double-dip versus Seward CCC at noon and 3:00 p.m. at Christensen Stadium. Vernon College is 5-2 this season while Seward Saints are 2-6 in 2022.
Offensively the Chaps are led by Garrett Williams with a .387 batting average followed by Frayner Chavez and Ryan Blackwell who are hitting .370 and .348 respectively after nine games.
The MC pitching staff is anchored by Oklahoma State signee, Luke Young with a 2-0 record a 1.38 ERA and 22 K's. Chap pitcher Luis Rodriguez is 1.0 with an ERA of 1.54 in 11.2 IP. Rodriguez has signed to play at the University of the Incarnate Word in 2022-2023.
