MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Midland College baseball team went 1-3 against Dodge City Community College during a four-game series in non-conference play, Sunday and Monday at Christensen Stadium.
The Chaps beat the Conquistadors 4-2 in Sunday's first game before Dodge City CC rattled off three straight wins by the scores of 13-10, 6-4 and 5-4 to take the series.
MC's Luke Young pitched a gem to open the series, picking up the win after allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks over seven innings. Young struck out 11.
In the opener, Caleb Heuertz powered the Chaps' offense by going 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI, while Tyler Wulfert was 2-for-3 with a home run, double, three RBI and two runs scored.
In Sunday's second game, Heuertz was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored; Frayner Chavez went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored and Midland Christian grad Rhett Clark hit a two-run home run coming off the bench.
Wulfert was 3-for-3 with a run scored and Lee grad Michael Weidner belted a two-run homer in the Chaps' 6-4 loss to start off Monday's doubleheader.
MC (11-6) fell a run short in the series finale, as Garrett Williams was 2-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases, a walk and three runs scored; Heuertz went 2-for-5 with a walk and Chris Garcia was 2-for-3 with a walk.
MC's Alizaeh Gutierrez threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in the finale, allowing one hit and four walks, while registering five strikeouts.
The series was delayed one day due to frigid weather Saturday.
The Chaps face North Central Texas College in a rescheduled doubleheader at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Abilene.
