BASEBALL: Chaps sweep DH from NCTC

ABILENE, TEXAS - The Midland College baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader of North Central Texas College on Wednesday at Hardin-Simmons University.
The Chaparrals won 4-0 and 12-2 in a doubleheader that was rescheduled from Feb. 22 because of bad weather.
In the first game, MC's Jarek Wells was stellar on the mound as he allowed five hits, walked one and struck out seven over seven innings.
Offensively, Tyler Wulfert was 3-for-3 with a run scored; Chris Garcia was 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBI and a run scored; while Roman Thompson also hit a solo home run.
MC out-hit NCTC 11-5.
The Chaps (13-6) had a seven-run fourth inning to win the second game as Gibrian Pena was 3-for-3 with double, walk, two RBI and two runs scored; Hudson Parker was 2-for-3 with a home run, walk, RBI and two runs scored; Garrett Williams was 2-for-3 with a double, walk, RBI and two runs scored; Frayner Chavez was 2-for-3 with a double, walk, RBI and two runs scored; and Jesse Benavidez had a triple and drove in two runs.
Starter Tate Van Poppel got the win after he allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits, two walks and two strikeouts over five innings.
The Chaps are off until March 11 when they begin Western Junior College Athletic Conference play against with a home doubleheader against New Mexico Junior College.
