BASEBALL: Chaps Seek to Remain in First Place in WJCAC

MIDLAND, TEXAS - After jumping out to a hot start in conference play, the MC baseball team found themselves in a fight versus a very game New Mexico Military Institute Broncos team last weekend at Christensen Stadium. The four-game series versus NMMI was played in Midland with the Broncos taking Friday's double-header. The Chaps rebounded on Saturday, winning both games including a very tight finish in Saturday's second game (a 5-4 MC victory).

Heading into this weekend's series against WJCAC rival Odessa College, the Chaparrals are currently 21-11 overall. Midland College is tied for first place with New Mexico Junior College at 8-4 after three conference series, including defeating NMJC three games to one in the opening series of the WJCAC slate.

The Odessa College Wranglers are 18-13 overall and 6-6 in the WJCAC (6th place). OC has chalked up some key regular season wins against tough opponents, including nationally ranked McLennan Community College, Weatherford College and Temple College. McLennan, Weatherford and Temple are each members of the NTJCAC and NJCAA Region 5 with the McLennan Highlanders being ranked as high as #1 nationally this season.

The Chaps will travel to Odessa on Friday for a double-header at American Legion Field, with games scheduled for 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. On Saturday, April 2nd the Wranglers and Chaparrals will move to Midland for two games at Christensen; also at noon and 3:00 p.m.

There is no admission charge at home Midland College home games. Attendees are invited to bring refreshments to the ballpark as there is no concession stand available at Christensen Stadium.
