EL PASO, TEXAS - The Midland College baseball team will go into next weekend's Region V Tournament as the No. 2 seed after a series split with El Paso Community College over the weekend.
MC split a doubleheader on Saturday, losing the first game 3-2, before bouncing back to with 13-5 in seven innings.
The Chaps (37-18, 22-10 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference) came away with a 2-2 series split and will next play Ranger College, the No. 3 seed out of the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference, at 10 a.m. Friday at Christensen Stadium to begin the Region V tourney.
In Saturday's first game, MC and EPCC were tied at 2-all when the Tejanos scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Chaps were held to six hits as Matthew Sandoval was 2-for-2 with a triple.
Luis Rodriguez suffered the loss as he allowed three runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and no walks over 5 2/3 innings.
MC used a seven-run second inning and had 18 hits to get the run-rule win in the series finale.
Hudson Parker was 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored for the Chaps. Rhett Clark was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored; Ryan Blackwell, Chris Garcia and Michael Weidner also homered; while Tyler Wulfert and Landon Pyles each had a triple.
Michael Lindsey got the win on the mound as he allowed four runs on six hits, three walks and struck out six over five innings.

EL PASO, TEXAS - The Midland College baseball team split a doubleheader against El Paso Community College on Friday.
The Chaparrals got a 13-2 run-ruled victory in the first game, before dropping a slugfest, 14-10, in the second game.
With New Mexico Junior College sweeping a doubleheader at Howard College, the Chaparrals (36-17, 21-9 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference) dropped two games back of first-place NMJC in the league standings with two games to go.
Garrett Williams led the MC offense in the first game by going 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Rhett Clark had a double and had four RBI; Roman Thompson was 2-for-2 with a double, walk, RBI and three runs scored; and Chris Garcia had a double and three RBI.
On the mound, MC ace Luke Young allowed two runs on six hits, with two walks and six strikeouts over five innings to get the complete-game victory.
EPCC (23-31, 10-20) rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth to get the win in the second game.
The Chaps also committed four errors in the game, which led to seven unearned runs, and MC pitchers walked eight batters.
Tyler Wulfert hit a grand slam for the Chaps, Michael Weidner had two doubles, Ryan Blackwell had two doubles and two RBI, while Williams, Garcia and Jesse Benavidez each had two hits.
Tate Van Poppel took the loss in relief.
The teams close out the regular season at 1 p.m. CDT Saturday in another doubleheader.
