BASEBALL: Chaparrals Remain Undefeated in 2023 with Wins Over WBU
Coming off an impressive three-game series sweep versus Alvin Community College, the Midland College Chaparrals opened the home portion of the season hosting Wayland Baptist University in Midland on Saturday.

MIDLAND, TEXAS -Coming off an impressive three-game series sweep versus Alvin Community College, the Midland College Chaparrals opened the home portion of the season hosting Wayland Baptist University in Midland on Saturday. Midland College were devastating at the plate in both contests and were masterful from the mound, including a combined no-hit performance in game two. With the wins MC improved to 5-0 on the season.
In game one returning players Rhett Clark and Michael Weidner spurred the Chaps 8-0, seven inning win versus the Pioneers. Clark, and LCU signee, went 3-4 at the plate while Weidner went 2-3 with two RBI. Both Clark and Weidner are from Midland. Clark is a product of Midland Christian School and Weidner is a graduate of Legacy High School (nee Lee High School). MC's Evan Herbert (5.0 IP), Zeigan Farley (1.0 IP) and Michael Bassett (1.0 IP) held Wayland Baptist to three total hits in the contest with Herbert striking out nine hitters to pick up the win.
Game two was more of the same as Midland College posted 14 runs on 11 total hits in the 14-0, five inning run-rule win. Tyler Boudreau (2.0 IP), Matt Guthmiller (2.0 IP) and Hudson Parker (1.0 IP) combined to no-hit Wayland Baptist in a game that was never in doubt. Guthmiller fanned five in picking up the win. Clark, 3-4 at the plate, Garrett Graham (2-3) and Blake Hollingshead (2-4) led the Chaparrals hit parade.
The Chaps return to the diamond on Friday, February 10th and Saturday, February 11th with a four-game series versus Trinidad State College (CO). Friday's double-header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and Saturday's double-dip is also slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch. The four-game series will be played at Christensen Stadium in Midland.
