BASEBALL: MC Chaps Take on Tough Clarendon College

MIDLAND, TEXAS - The MC baseball team's next conference series will take place at Clarendon College on Saturday and Sunday. WJCAC series are typically Friday and Saturday, however, high winds and gusts forecast for Friday in the panhandle, forced the series back a day.
The Chaparrals are currently 22-5 overall and 8-4 in the WJCAC following last weekend's four-game series versus Odessa College. Midland College took games 1 and 2 versus the Wranglers on Saturday in Midland, then split Sunday's double in Odessa. Clarendon split their four game series versus New Mexico Junior College last weekend. The Clarendon College Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 15-15 record, including 4-8 in conference.
The trip to Clarendon will be an good test for the Chaparrals as the team seeks to put together four strong games on the road.
Midland College expects strong plate appearances by freshmen Xavier Melendez and Jake Martinez and by sophomore standout Rhett Clark. Melendez is currently batting .506, Martinez is hitting .404 and Clark chips in with a .411 average. The Chaps pitching rotation has showed signs of strength this year led by Alizaeh Gutierrez, Tyler Boudreau and Evan Hebert.
Following the games at Clarendon, MC will return home for a four-game conference series versus Frank Phillips College on Thursday, April 6th and Friday, April 7th.
