The Midland College baseball team picked up four important wins in their conference series with El Paso Community College at Christensen Stadium. The Chaparrals took on the EPCC Tejanos on Friday and Saturday, with double-headers each day. With the wins the Chaps improved to 6-2 in the WJCAC, tied for first place with New Mexico Junior College, and 18-7 overall this season.
On Friday's opening game the Chaps received a tremendous pitching performance from Tyler Boudreau who threw a complete game (7.0 innings) shutout with 11 strikeouts, surrendering only three hits in MC's 7-0 victory. The second game of Friday's double-header saw the Chaps come from behind on two occasions, including in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 4-3 win. MC's Dariel Rios drove in the winning run for the Chaps.
Saturday the Chaps' Daniel Bass recorded the win in game three of the series. Bass went five innings with six strikeouts in MC's 13-3 run rule win. Jake Martinez, Brock Tijerina, Xavier Melendez, Andrew Taylor and Kyle Lewis each contributed two hits apiece.
In the series finale freshman Ryan Marton picked up the win, going five innings and striking out four EPCC hitters. Matt Guthmiller went 2-4 at the plate with three walks, one RBI and three stolen bases in Midland College's 7-2 victory.
MC travels to Roswell, NM for a four game conference series with a very tough New Mexico Military Institute Broncos team (March 22-23). NMMI is currently 16-11 this season and 5-3 in the WJCAC. The Broncos split with the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds (2-2) and won three of four versus Odessa College over the weekend.
