Chap Baseball Faces a Tough Challenge at New Mexico Military Institute

The Midland College Chaparrals baseball team, fresh off a four-game sweep over El Paso Community College, will face a daunting challenge when they travel to Roswell, NM for a four-game weekend series with the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos. Midland College handled the EPCC Tejanos to improve to 18-7 on the season, including 6-2 in the WJCAC. The Broncos are currently 16-11 overall and 5-3 in conference after last weekend's three wins out of four games series with Odessa College.
The Chaps are expected to ride the arm of Tyler Boudreau into Friday's first game with freshman Holt Gibson and sophomore Daniel Bass each toeing the rubber this weekend. Julio Ramos, Paul Ruiz and Luis Patron have been consistent starting pitchers for the Broncos this season.
Offensively the Chaps are ranked in the top five teams, nationally, in batting average (.358) led by redshirt sophomore Matt Guthmiller. Guthmiller is hitting .444 (29th in NJCAA DI) this season followed by Justin Rumfield and Jake Martinez who are hitting .413 and .407 respectively. Midland College ranks 23rd in OBS at .453 and 12th in NJCAA Division I in slugging percentage at .570. Conversely, the Broncos rank 58th in team batting average (.309) however they have several hitters who deliver at the plate, led by Junhyuk Kwon who is hitting .434 (40th nationally) and Seojun Oh at .358.
