Midland College Chaparrals continued to play outstanding baseball in a four-game conference series sweep of the New Mexico Military Institute on Friday and Saturday at Christensen Stadium in Midland. Midland College improved to 26-4 overall and more importantly, boosted their WJCAC record to 10-2.
On Friday, the Chaparrals handled the Broncos in both games with scores of 11-2 and 17-4 (five innings). MC was led by Caleb Boswell's 6-7 performance at the plate, including two homeruns, nine total RBI, three doubles and two triples over the two Friday games. MC pitchers Jacob Kuhn (7-0) and Jason Berglund (4-0) picked up the wins for the Chaparrals.
Saturday's games continued the Chaparrals' offensive onslaught with MC winning by scores of 13-3 (six innings) and 12-5. MC freshman firstbase, Jorge Gil, was 5-9 at the plate with two RBI and three doubles in Saturday's double-header. Freshman pitcher Logan Flores (3-2) picked up the win in the first game, with fellow frosh Keller Linderman (3-0) picking up the win in the afternoon's second game.
The Chaparrals are currently riding a nine-game win streak headed into this weekend's conference series versus Clarendon College in Midland. Friday's double-header is scheduled for a noon, first pitch. Likewise for Saturday's games (noon start).
The Chaps are ranked in the NJCAA's top 10 in several team stats: 1st in batting average (.375), 1st in triples (24), 4th in extra base hits (135), 4th in on base percentage (.491), 4th in slugging percentage (.642) and 5th in sacrifice flies (22) through 30 games.
