The #4 ranked MC Chaps baseball team opened the 2026 WJCAC slate at home versus Frank Phillips College (Borger, TX) at Christensen Stadium. Midland College improved to 18-2 this season and, more importantly, recorded a four-game conference sweep versus the Plainsmen. The Chaps are currently 4-0 in the WJCAC.
In Friday's first game, MC received great offensive production from the likes of Caleb Eager, Jorge Gil and AJ Velarde for the 11-1, five inning-run rule win. Sophomore pitcher Logan Flores picked up his 5th win of the season to improve to 5-0.
Game two was much the same as Midland College hitters posted 13 hits in the 16-6 win. Game two also went five innings. Offensive stars for the Chaps included Velarde, Stevyn Andrachick and Cooper Kirkpatrick. Velarde recorded two homeruns and six RBI in the contest. MC's Jason Berglund picked up the win on the mound to improve to 2-0 this season. Alex Uher nailed down the win, facing two FPC batters to close the game.
On Saturday, the Plainsmen offered stronger resistence in both contests. MC's Jorge Gil and Cole Neatherlin provided the offensive spark in the Chaps 6-2 game three win. Lane Schulz went five innings and only surrendered two hits to pick up his third win of the season (3-0). Logan Reid and Nickolas Rodriguez came in, in relief with each going one inning to help secure the victory.
In the final game of the weekend's series, MC's Caleb Eager and Cole Neatherlin provided key hits in the Chaparrals 7-6 victory. With the score tied at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning Bammer Maes led off with a walk. The next two MC batters, Dylon Myrow and Jorge Gil, posted outs on a Myrow strikeout while Gil flied out. Chaps DH Eager then singled to right moving Maes to second base. Fortunately for MC, the next batter was one of the nation's top offensive threats, second baseman, Stevyn Andrachick. With two outs, Maes on second Andrachick smacked a single to right field, driving in Maes to secure the win.
The Chaparrals don't have long to enjoy their wins as they take on Amarillo College at Christensen Stadium beginning with a noon double-header on Friday, March 13th. The Chaps and the Badgers will play a second conference double-header on Saturday, March 14th also at noon.
The Amarillo College Badgers will come in with an 8-13 record, including 1-3 in conference. AC opened play versus Odessa College in Roswell, NM. Amarillo College was scheduled to host the games in Amarillo, but a scheduling conflict at Hodgetown Ballpark forced them to find an alternative location for the games.
Go Chaps!
