BASKETBALL: Chaps win nail-biter at Howard College
The Midland College men’s basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak by squeaking past Howard College with a 56-54 win during Thursday’s Western Junior College Athletic Conference game at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.

BIG SPRING, TEXAS - The Midland College men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak by squeaking past Howard College with a 56-54 win during Thursday's Western Junior College Athletic Conference game at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.
The Chaps (11-11, 4-5) swept the season series against the Hawks, while moving into a three-way tie with Howard College (12-9, 4-5) and Frank Phillips College (13-9, 4-5) for fifth in the conference.
Steven Richardson led MC with 16 points, followed by 11 each from Oliver Hayward and Christian Villegas. Villegas also led the Chaps with eight rebounds.
Midland High grad Rahkiem Petterson had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks, while teammate and Trinity grad Ciro Baeza scored 13 points.
The Chaps shot 46.5% from the field, compared to 35% by Howard. That helped MC overcome 16 turnovers compared to only seven from Howard.
The Chaps host Frank Phillips College at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
