MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Midland College Athletics family learned of the death of former Midland College basketball player, Mike Carrasco. Carrasco was a 6'8" post player, from Crane, Texas. While not as athletically gifted as some, Mike made the most of what God gave him. Making the most of what God gave him was a guiding principle over the course of Mike's life.
As a young adult Mike was diagnosed with a chronic disease called Scleroderma. He fought and survived it going on to graduate from college and becoming a high school coach and teacher at Kermit High School. Mike received a double lung transplant in 2017 and despite many difficulties and challenges, his faith in God never wavered.
Mike Carrasco succumbed from a form of cancer on the morning of February 8, 2022.
Mike was a son, brother, friend, teammate, father, coach and teacher. More importantly he was devout in his belief in the goodness of his Heavenly Father.
Mike always made the most of what God gave him, including making the best of the health issues he struggled with on a daily basis. Of all the ways Mike Carrasco will be remembered, its as a proud father that he was at his best.
"Honoring a friend's death is truly about honoring their life. Despair over what may have been, but revel and reflect in what was."
