MIDLAND, TEXAS - After enduring three seasons as a member of the Midland College basketball team, Steven Richardson will play his final game as a member of the Chaparrals. Richardson of Sacramento, CA initially arrived at MC for the 2019-2020 season, his freshman year, where he started 27 of 30 games, averaging 9.0 points per game playing 29 minutes.
The 2020-2021 season, Richardson's "sophomore" campaign, was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic limiting the team to only 15 games over the course of the season. Richardson improved his offensive output to 12.3 ppg and playing 36 minutes per contest.
Due to an NJCAA ruling student-athletes were not charged a year of competition for the contracted 2021 season. That allowed Richardson to return to MC for a third season having only exhausted two seasons of eligibility. This season Richardson has started in 27 of 28 games and is averaging 12.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest. Once again Richardson is playing over 30 minutes per game making him one of the most durable members of the team.
Steven's quiet leadership, his cool demeanor and unrushed style of play has become a cornerstone for Coach Pat Rafferty and the Midland College basketball program for the past three years. As his time at MC closes, fans will remember the 6'5" Richardson's work ethic and consistency in the Chaparrals lineup.
Best of luck, Steven!
