SNYDER, TEXAS - Western Texas College's Kobe Reed sank a free throw in the final seconds to help the Westerners pull off a 64-63 upset over No. 14-ranked Midland College at the WTC Coliseum in Snyder on Thursday night.
The loss is the third straight for the Chaparrals (16-3, 2-3 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference), who got a game-high 29 points from Doug Young.
Young had tied the game, 63-63, just a few seconds earlier when he hit two free throws off a technical foul on WTC (8-11, 1-4).
MC had to battle back in this game after it trailed for much of the first half and was down 35-31 at halftime.
The Chaps retook the lead early in the second half and had as much as a 57-52 lead on two free throws by Young with 6:39 left in the game.
But the Westerners responded with a 9-0 run, led by Mason McBride's five points, to retake the lead.
Four WTC players finished in double figures, led by Ahmad Robinson with 18 points, McBride had 15 points and 11 rebounds, Benjamin Ezeagu added 13 points and Emmanuel Lawal chipped in with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Jaden Henderson was the only other Chap to score in double figures with 11 points.
Once again MC was hurt by poor 3-point shooting as it was just 2 of 16 from beyond the arc. The Chaps were also out-rebounded 38-29.
The Chaps will look to break their slump when they host rival and No. 3-ranked Odessa College at 7:30 p.m. at Chaparral Center.
