LEVELLAND. TEXAS - After dropping four consecutive WJCAC contests the MC Chaparrals basketball team appears to be regaining their footage as they begin the second half of the conference race. In the midst of the negative streak there were signs of what could be as the losses were by a total of 13 total points, which included two losses by three points each and one by a single point. Since their last loss to #2 ranked Odessa College, on January 23rd, the Chaparrals have reeled off three wins by 36, 54 and nine points each in consecutive games. The nine-point win took place on Saturday, February 4th in a rescheduled game versus #11 ranked South Plains College at Levelland.
Midland College, 19-4 overall and 5-4 in the WJCAC, defeated SPC by a score of 84-75 in the second of three games over five days due to weather related postponements. The Chaparrals trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half but took the win on the hot shooting of sophomores Doug Young and Keonte Jones. Young and Jones led all scorers in the game with 31 and 23 points respectively. MC's Trent Johnson and Eric Grier narrowly missed double-digit scoring with nine points each in the contest.
