HUTCHINSON, KANSAS - Many have asked so I am sharing information on the tournament and how to watch games from the 2023 NJCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, KS.
Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. (CT) Midland College won their first game versus Chipola College (FL) by a score of 69-55. The tournament has a field of 24 teams: 16 qualifiers who won their regional or district playoffs to advance to the national tournament along with eight teams that are selected to participate as "at-large" teams.
Midland College won the Region 5 Basketball Tournament in Lubbock on Saturday, March 11th and received a #8 seed into the national tournament. That means Midland College didn't have a first round game.
Once the 24 team national tournament field was selected they were seeded (ranked) #1 through #24. The top eight seeded teams received a first round bye and were automatically advanced to the second round. The remaining 16 teams played a first round game beginning on Monday, March 20th.
Complete National Tournament Bracket:
On Monday, March 20th Chipola College, the #9 seed, played #24 seed Cape Fear Community College (NC) with the winner moving on to play Midland College. Chipola College defeated Cape Fear 96-66.
Cape Fear was eliminated from the tournament and Chipola moved on to play Midland College, yesterday. As mentioned previously the Chaparrals defeated the Chipola College Indians 69-55. Chipola College was eliminated from the tournament with the loss.
