Chaparrals Basketball Survives Versus #10 Frank Phillips College, Move on to Host #5 NMJC

The Midland College men's basketball faced their third straight NJCAA ranked opponent on Thursday night when they took on #10 Frank Phillips College at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center. Previously the Chaps defeated, then #19 Odessa College followed by a win over, then #10 Howard College. The FPC Plainsmen are considered one of the favorites to win the 2025 WJCAC title.
Midland College was sluggish out of the gates, falling behind by double-digits in the first half. The Plainsmen led 32-24 at the intermission. The Chaparrals got a much-needed lift when freshman Antoine Hurns unleashed an offensive barrage that spurred the team in the second half. Hurns finished the night with a game-high 32 points. MC sophomore guard Jaden Kempson recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards. The Chaps won the contest 76-71 to move into first place in the WJCAC.

Midland College improved to 13-4 on the season and 3-0 and is in first place in the WJCAC by a half game over South Plains College. Midland College moves on to face #5 ranked New Mexico Junior College on Monday, January 20th @ 7:30 p.m. at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center. NMJC is 16-2 overall and 2-2 in conference heading into Monday night's clash.
