#18 Chaps Finish Season with Narrow Loss to Weatherford College in Region 5 Tournament

The Midland College Chaparrals finished the 2025 season, ranked among the nation's best teams at No. 18 in the final NJCAA Men's Division I poll. MC advanced to the NJCAA Region 5 Basketball Tournament as the #3 seed from the WJCAC and were paired with Weatherford College in the tournament's first round game. WC was the #2 seed from the NTJCAC.
When the final horn sounded the Chaps suffered a heartbreaking, 58-56 loss to the Coyotes after WC's Antwan Wilson scored on a last second 45 footer at the end of regulation to steal the victory away from the Chaparrals. Midland College had taken the lead, 56-55, with 16 seconds remaining in the game on a James Johnson layup.
Midland College, finished the season with a 20-11 overall record. The 20 wins includes a 77-70 victory over Snow College, UT the NJCAA's #1 ranked team. The loss to Midland College is the lone blemish on the Snow College record heading into the NJCAA Men's Divison I National Championship Tournament.
The Chaparrals and Coyotes each struggled offensively with Midland College shooting 36% from the floor, 26.3% from the three-point line and 65% from the charity stripe. Weatherford College, for its part, posted 35% 2PT FG, 31.3% from the three-point line and 65% from the free throw line. MC's Jaden Kempson and Trey Clarke led the Chaparrals in scoring at 14 and 10 points respectively. Clarke also hauled in nine rebounds in the game.
