Ninth Ranked Chaparrals Defeat #15 NMJC, To Take on Western Texas on Sophomore Night
The Midland College Chaparrals improved to 24-4 this season and 10-4 in conference headed into Monday's final home game versus Western Texas College.

Monday's top 15 match-up between the New Mexico JC Thunderbirds and the Midland College Chaparrals was everything fans expected it to be. With 10 ties and and 16 total lead changes, the game was thrilling from the opening tip to the final horn. When the dust settled, the Chaparrals successfully defended their home court by a score of 69-68. More importantly, the Chaps moved ahead of the T-Birds in the conference standings headed into next week's final two conference games.
Midland College will enjoy a few days off due to an open date on Thursday, February 26th. MC will return to the hardwood on Monday, March 2nd in the final home game of the 2026 season. Monday's game will see the Chaps host Western Texas College in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. Monday's game will also be Midland College Chaparrals Basketball Sophomore Night. The departing sophomore class of the MC basketball team will be honored in a short ceremony between the 5:45 p.m. women's game and the 7:30 p.m. men's game.
In the NMJC game, Midland College received balanced scoring led by Solomon Ominu and Darius Carr's 11 points each. Nicholas Anthony chipped in with 10 points followed by nine-point performances by Antoine Bo Hurns and Nayte Spargo. Hurns hauled down seven rebounds to lead the Chaparrals.
Seven members of the Midland College basketball team will play the final home game of their MC careers on Monday. The Chaps will play their final WJCAC game of the season on Thursday, March 5th versus Howard College at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum in Big Spring.
