No. 9 MC Chaparrals Basketball Advances to the NJCAA Region 5 Tournament, Takes On McLennan CC in Thursday's Opener
The Midland College Chaparrals (25-5) will open the 2026 NJCAA Region 5 Basketball Tournament on Thursday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m. versus the McLennan Community College Highlanders.

The Midland College Chaps will look to play their best basketball of the season when they open play at the Region 5 Basketball Tournament on Thursday, March 12th in a 1:00 p.m. tip-off versus the McLennan Community College Highlanders. Midland College comes in with a 25-5 record and as the #4 seed from the WJCAC. McLennan for their part will come in with a 29-1 record and as the #1 seed from the NTJCAC.
The Chaps were riding a five-game win streak prior to the WJCAC finale at Howard College. The Howard College Hawks, ranked No. 4 nationally, defeated MC 101-86 to end the regular season in a game that was marred by techincal fouls and slowed by 70 personal foul calls and over 90 free throw shots.
McLennan went undefeated in conference play and finished the regular season ranked No. 18 in the final NJCAA Men's Division I Basketball Poll. The Highlanders and Chaparrals have common opponents in Weatherford College and Western Texas College.
the No. 9 Midland College Chaps were tested this season with four WJCAC opponents ranked among the NJCAA's Top 25 teams: #4 Howard College, #14 South Plains College, #15 New Mexico Junior College and #22 Odessa College. Additionally, Midland College played nationally ranked, then #1 Trinity Valley CC, in November.
