GOLF: Chaps Linksters Serve Notice With Runner-up Finish at DI Bentwater Intercollegiate
The Midland College golf team definitely held its own this week against a field of NCAA Division I programs at the Bentwater Intercollegiate.

MONTGOMERY, TEXAS - Facing their most stringent competition of the fall semester, the Midland College golf team sent shockwaves through the country after a runner-up finish at the NCAA Division I Bentwater Intercollegiate Tournament. The Chaparrals are currently the #2 ranked team in the NJCAA and ranked #1 according to Golfstat.com's team rankings which were released earlier today.
Midland College finished in a second place tie along with Rice University, both behind tournament host Sam Houston State University. Chaparrals golfers Samual McKenzie and Gregor Graham finished among the Top 10 individual results.
McKenzie, a sophomore from Johannesburg, South Africa finished tied for 5th place with a 54-hole total of 212 (-1) while freshman teammate Graham (Blairgowrie, Scotland) finished in a three-way tie for 7th place, recording a three round score of 213 (E). Tournament individual medalist honors went to Sam Houston State's Chad Sewell with a score of 199 (-14).
The Bentwater Invitational tournament field was comprised of 11 NCAA Division I teams with Midland College as the lone NJCAA team entered. MC's strong showing will bring more attention to the talented Chaparrals by placing them in the sights of other top NJCAA programs.

The MC team featured McKenzie, Graham along with sophomores Adam Coull (Sydney, Australia) and Aston Castillo (Lubbock, Texas) as well as freshman Alfie Robinson (Sussex, England). Coull finished in a tie for 21st place with scores of 73-71-75—219 (+6). Castillo and Robinson shot 54 hole scores of 224 (+11) and 234 (+21) respectively.

After returning from the Houston area the Chaps will have nine days of recuperation and practice time until the West Texas Matchplay event in Brownwood, Texas on October 22nd.
