GOLF: Chap Linksters win West Texas Cup Match Play
Coach Walt William’s Midland College golf team continued their winning ways when they took part in the 2021 West Texas Match Play tournament in Brownwood, Texas.

BROWNWOOD, TEXAS - Coach Walt William's Midland College golf team continued their winning ways when they took part in the 2021 West Texas Match Play tournament in Brownwood, Texas. The event brought together four teams currently in the top 15 in the NJCAA's national rankings. The tournament featured a "Ryder Cup" styled match play format over 36 holes.
In addition to the #2 ranked Chaparrals, #4 Odessa College, #12 Western Texas College and #14 Ranger College participated in the match. Players from Midland College and Ranger College competed against teams from Odessa College and Western Texas College. MC/RC defeated OC/WTC 9-7 (16 total matches) with the Chaparrals contingent dominating in the individual scoring. Midland College freshman, Gregor Graham, finished first in the individual scoring with scores of 68-67—135 (-9) followed by teammate, sophomore Bladen Samaniego who shot 69-67—136 (-8) to finish in the runner-up spot.
Coach Williams and the Chaparrals return to play on Friday, October 29th at the McLennan Squaw Creek Match. The tournament will be held at the Squaw Creek Golf Course (Par 71, 6173 Yards) in Willow Park, Texas.
