GOLF: Chaps storm back to win District 2 championship
The No. 1-ranked Midland College men’s golf team came from behind on Tuesday to win the NJCAA Region V/District 2 Championship at The Hideout Golf Club in Brownwood.

BROWNWOOD, TEXAS - The No. 1-ranked Midland College men's golf team came from behind on Tuesday to win the NJCAA Region V/District 2 Championship at The Hideout Golf Club in Brownwood.
The Chaparrals shot a blistering 25-under par 263 on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a 28-under par 548 total, 10 shots ahead of rival Odessa College. New Mexico Junior College was third with a 562, while Monday's co-leader McLennan Community College slipped to a tie for fourth with a 564.
MC trailed the leaders by four shots after shooting a 285 on Monday.
MC sophomore Samual McKenzie finished in a three-way tie for first with Ranger College's Grant Ferreira and NMJC's Matthis Lefevre in the medalist standings with a 72-63—135 total. MC teammate Angel Guerra finished in a tie for fifth with a 72-65—137, while fellow MC sophomore JT Pittman finished tied for seventh with a 74-65—139.
The tournament was shortened from 54 to 36 holes after Monday's play was hampered by rainy weather.
The Chaparrals next get ready to play the 72-hole NJCAA National Tournament beginning on May 10 at Odessa Country Club.
