GOLF: Chaps win first tournament of year at Andrews
The Midland College golf team won its first tournament of the year with a three-shot victory at the Andrews Country Club College/Amateur Invitational on Sunday.

ANDREWS, TEXAS - The Midland College golf team won its first tournament of the year with a three-shot victory at the Andrews Country Club College/Amateur Invitational on Sunday.
The Chaparrals shot 275-279—554 to finish ahead of Western Texas College (557). McLennan Community College (570) was third, followed by Wayland Baptist University (572), Odessa College (573) and Ranger College (570).
Midland College sophomore Chris Wardrup won the medalist title with a 66-71—137 total to finish one shot ahead of freshman teammate Thomas Vestergaard (71-67—138). Fellow MC teammate Jake Cubitt, a freshman, was third with a 69-70—139, while MC sophomore Alfie Robinson finished tied for sixth with a 70-71—141.
Other Chaps playing were freshman Max Cavazos, who tied for 16th with a 72-72—144, while sophomore Davis Seybert finished tied for 19th with a 70-75—145 total.
The Chaparrals next play in the McLennan Community
College/River Classic on Sept. 19.
