GOLF: MC Takes MWSU Invitational Title

WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS - The Midland College Chaps linksters recorded their third tournament championship of the fall semester at the Midwestern State Invitational. The Chaparrals, currently ranked #5 in the NJCAA polls, defeated 14 NCAA DII universities and fellow NJCAA member institution Blinn College in the two day, 54 hole event. The Chaparrals posted scores of 287-273-280—840 (-12) followed by tournament host, Midwestern State Universities 850 (-2).
MC received strong performances from sophomore transfer Chris Wardup who finished in a tie for second place with scores of 68-66-70—204 (-9), one shot behind Texas A&M International's Mauricio Figueroa's 203 and tied for the runner-up spot with Jamie Roberts of Colorado State University-Pueblo.
Midland's Thomas Vestergaard finished in a tie for 7th place with a score of 212 (-1) followed by Davis Seybert's 213 (E) and Max Cavazos' 214 (+1). Seybert finished in 9th place and Cavazos finished in a tie for 10th place. Additionally, Midland College's Vincent Laplante finished in a tie for 5th in the player standings competing as and individual.

Coach Walt Williams and the Chaparrals return to tournament competition on October 17-18 at the New Mexico State University Aggie Invitational in Las Cruces, NM.
