The Midland College golf team opened the season in the Andrews County GC College Amateur event, finishing in a tie for third place in the 36 hole tournament. In what is an annual tradition, the Chaps traveled to Andrews, TX to open the season.
This year the Chaps have an unfamiliar look with only one returning player from last year's national tournament team. Sophomore Benjamin Lund-Ravn was the only returning member of the 2023-2024 team to play in this years Andrews College Amateur Tournament. The Chaparrals are ranked #2 nationally according to the 2024-2025 Bushnell/Golfweek NJCAA DI Preseason Coaches Poll.
MC freshmen Scott Sparks, Harrison Sewell, Bryce Womack, Reuben Harvey along with Lund-Ravn comprised the tournament team. Midland College's Hunter Welch played as an individual and posted a solid performance in his first-ever college tournament.
NAIA member Wayland Baptist University won the team title, shooting a 36-hole score of 547. New Mexico Junior College finished in second place with a score of 549 followed by third place finishers Odessa College and the MC Chaparrals, each recording scores of 556.
In the individual standings Midland's Lund-Ravn finished in a tie for second place posting scores of 66-69 (5 under) seven strokes behind medalist Adam Bresnu of Odessa College and tied with Benjamin Lubker of WBU.
