Midland College Chaps Golf Sweeps Waco River Classic Team and Individual Titles

The Midland College Chaparrals "A" squad jumped out to an eight stroke lead after the first 36 holes and held the lead on day 2 of the Waco River Classic to win by 15 strokes over second place Western Texas College.  The Waco River Classic was hosted by McLennan Community College at the Bear Ridge Golf Course in Waco, TX.  The 15 team field included a MC "A" and an MC "B" team as well as one individual competitor, MC freshman Jacob Cole.  Additionally, four year universities including Texas A&M University-San Antonio and Arlington Baptist University were in the field.    

The Midland College "A" team recorded scores of 285-285-290--860 (-4) led by freshmen Bryce Womack and Scott Spark.  Womack posted a 54-hole total of 208 (8 under par) followed closely by Spark's three round score of 211 (-5) to take the individual title and runner-up spots.  MC's "B" team finished in 11th place overall with scores of 308-297-300--905 (+41) paced by freshman Reuben Harvey's 75-68-71--214 (2 under par).  

Midland College has won their first two tournaments of the fall semester after finishing in a tie for first place with Odessa College in last week's Andrews County Golf Course College Amateur event.  Midland College and Odessa College benefitted after New Mexico Junior College was forced to forfeit their place in the event due to an eligibility violation.

Midland College will seek to continue its torrid start when they enter the Eastern New Mexico University - Ruidoso High Country Shootout in Ruidoso, NM.  The High Country Shootout will be played at the Links at Sierra Blanca Course in Ruidoso September 23-24.
