#1 Chaparrals Continue Outstanding Performances on the Links, Finish in Second Place at NMSU Tournament
The Midland College golf team followed up last week's impressive showing at the Wichita State University Shocker Invitational, with a second place in the New Mexico State University Herb Wimberly Invitational.

Led by the scorching play of sophomore Bryce Womack, the Midland College Chaparrals golf team posted scores of 280-281-281--842 (-10) to finish as the runner-up in the Herb Wimberly Memorial Invitational tournament in Las Cruces, NM. The tournament featured a field of three NCAA Division I universities, including the host team NMSU, along with two NCAA DII university teams as well as 10 NJCAA member college teams. For the second week in a row the Chaparrals competed in an NCAA Division I tournament and for the second week in a row, the Chaps sent a strong message to the collegiate golf world.
New Mexico State University, playing on their home course, outpaced the field by shooting a 54-hole score of 825 (-27) followed by the MC Chaparrals who finished 17 strokes behind the Aggies. The Chaparrals easily outdistanced the all other two-year college teams by 16 strokes (or more).
Midland College maintained their top-ranking in NJCAA Men's Division I golf according to the most recent Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll. Hutchinson Community College is ranked second nationally according to the Bushnell poll. The HCC Dragons finished in 8th place in the NMSU Tournament, 16 strokes back of the Chaps.
Midland College's Womack finished in a tie for second place behind NMSU's Alexandre Bauduin and tied with NMSU's Mateo Payan. Womack shot 70-67-68--205 (-8), three strokes behind the individual champion, Bauduin who shot 202 (-11). MC freshman Reuben Harvey recorded scores of 69-72-70--211 (-2) to finish in a tie for eight place in the individual standings.
MC coach Walt Williams has assembled a very strong team for the 2024-2025 school year. The Chaps may be poised to make a strong run at a national championship this spring.

The Midland College golf team will wrap up the fall semester when the enter the Odessa College Wrangler Invitational (October 31-November 1) at the Odessa Country Club course in Odessa, TX.
