Midland College Leads After the First Round of the 2025 NJCAA Men's Division I National Golf Tournament
The Chaparrals entered the tournament as the #1 ranked team in the NJCAA according to the Bushnell/Golfweek and the Scoreboard by Clippd polls.

The Midland College Chaparrals held onto a narrow one-stroke lead after the first round of the 2025 NJCAA Men's Division I National Golf Tournament. Midland College shot a first round score of 284 (-4) to lead the event over second place Hutchinson Community College (KS).
MC head coach Walt Williams, entered a young, but talented team into the event with four freshmen and two sophomores. The Chaps tournament team is led by 2025 NJCAA Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award winner, Scott Spark. Spark a native of Aberdeenshire, Scotland is the #3 ranked player in the NJCAA.
Fellow freshman Harrison Sewell (Northumberland, England) is ranked #5, sophomore Bryce Womack (San Antonio, TX) is the #8 ranked player in the NJCAA, MC freshman Reuben Harvey (Southwold, England) enters the national tournament as the #18 ranked player, while Chaparrals freshman Hunter Welch (Lubbock, TX) lands as the #22 ranked player after an impressive spring semester of play. Sophomore Benjamin Lund-Ravn (Kastrup, Denmark) rounds out the tournament team for Coach Walt Williams. Lund-Ravn the #36 ranked player in the NJCAA individual standings, is the alternate for the team in the national tournament. Lund-Ravn was a 2023-2024 NJCAA First Team All-American for the Chaparrals.
Spark has also earned PING First Team All-American recognition for his tremendous year on the course. Sewell, for his part, earned PING Second Team All-American honors while Womack was selected to the PING All-American Honorable Mention team. Spark, Sewell, Harvey and Womack were named to the PING South Central District team this year.
Not to be outdone, Midland College coach Walt Williams was recently inducted into the NJCAA Men's Golf Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Williams has led the Chaparrals to six top three finishes in the National Tournament in his seven years at Midland College. Williams has coached at various levels of collegiate golf including NCAA Division I (Washington State University, Sam Houston State University and the University Louisiana-Monroe) as well as NCAA Division III (LeTourneau University) and at fellow NJCAA institution, Western Texas College.
