The Midland College Chaps golf team closed out a solid 2025-2026 year with a highly-respectable 7th place finish in the final team standings of the 2026 NJCAA Men's DI National Tournament. The Chaparrals who had been ranked in the top spot for a good portion of the year, went into the national tournament ranked 6th after playing an incredibly tough schedule throughout the year. Midland College coach Walt Williams is not one to take the easy road, had the Chaparrals entered in 14 events this year, including one NCAA DII tournament and three NCAA DI tournaments. That formidable schedule was intended to prepare the team for the competition pressues of the NJCAA Regional, District and National levels.
The Chaparrals, the defending national champs, entered a squad comprised of Scott Spark the NJCAA's #1 ranked player, along with Reuben Harvey, Hunter Welch, Kalle Blixt, Leo Powell and Jasper Pippig. Spark, Harvey and Welch are each in their second year with the Chaps while Blixt, Powell and Pippig are freshmen.
National tournament rankings entering the national tournament listed Indian Hills CC, McLennan CC, Odessa, Weatherford, Central Alabama, Hutchinson and the Chaparrals as their top seven teams. Those teams each finished in the top seven in the national tournament in a slightly different order, however, as McLennan won the team title this year followed by Indian Hills, Odessa, Hutchinson, Weatherford, Central Alabama and Midland.
