SOFTBALL: Lady Chaps Head Into the Post-Season, NJCAA Region 5 West Tournament

The 2021 Midland College softball season has been inundated with considerable challenges. From hiring a new coach, Angel Castro, in December of 2020, to playing a contracted schedule of only six non-conference games and suffering through an eight-game WJCAC losing streak late in the season. The Lady Chaps are working to regain their early season successes in the Region 5 West Tournament.

MIDLAND, TEXAS - The 2021 Midland College softball season has been inundated with considerable challenges. From hiring a new coach, Angel Castro, in December of 2020, to playing a contracted schedule of only six non-conference games and suffering through an eight-game WJCAC losing streak late in the season. The Lady Chaps are working to regain their early season successes in the Region 5 West Tournament.

MC coaches Castro and assistant Aubree Avila are hoping for a good week of practice and a needed course correction headed into the weekend's competitions.

The Region 5 West Tournament field is comprised of the six teams currently playing in the WJCAC, in a double-elimination shootout in Lubbock, Texas on the campus of Lubbock Christian University.

Midland College (19-17) earned a four-seed and will open the post-season versus #5 seed Western Texas College (13-29). MC swept the Lady Westerners over the weekend in a four-game conference series.  The Lady Chaps and Lady Westerners are scheduled to play on Friday, May 14th @ 12:30 p.m. with the winner moving forward to play the 2021 WJCAC Champion and #7 nationally-ranked Howard College (35-3) in a 5:30 p.m. match-up, also on Friday.

The Lady Chaps will rely on production on offense and solid starts by the pitching staff in order to move through the tournament bracket.

All games from the 2021 NJCAA Region 5 West Tournament will be live streamed by tournament host LCU.
