SOFTBALL: Lady Chaps split doubleheader at Sul Ross

ALPINE, TEXAS - The Midland College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Sul Ross State University on Monday.
The Lady Chaparrals dropped a heartbreaker in the first game, 7-6, before bouncing back with a 14-4 victory in the second game.
In the first game, it was tied at 6-all when Sul Ross scored the walk-off run on two-out single in the bottom of the seventh.
MC (6-2) was down 5-3 after five innings before the Lady Chaps scored three in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. SRSU tied it at 6 with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Lauren De La Cruz led MC by going 4-for-4 with a home run, double, three RBI and three runs scored. Zoey De Baca was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Samantha Rodriguez took the loss in relief.
The Lady Chaps had a seven-run fourth and five-run seventh to put the second game away.
The game was rather sloppy as the teams combined for 11 errors.
De Baca was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored. Ciera Avila was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored; De La Cruz was 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored; Tajanae Davis was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored; Kaitlyn Gonzales was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and three runs scored; and Chanel Esparza had a home run and two RBI.
De Baca got the win in the circle after she allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits, three walks and four strikeouts in a complete-game performance.
The Lady Chaps next host Coastal Bend College in a four-game series beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Friday.
