MIDLAND, TEXAS - Lee grad Gisselle Dominguez hit a pair of home runs in the second game to help the Midland College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Cisco College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Chaparrals were held to five hits in a 6-2 loss in the opening game, before they rallied in the second game for a 15-9 victory.
The games were MC's first in two weeks.
"Defensively, I think we did better than we have," MC coach Angel Castro said. "Our pitching struggled a little bit. We just couldn't get our sticks going in the first game and we had 13 strikeouts, which is not common for us."
The teams were tied in the second game at 9-all in the fifth when Dominguez blasted a three-run shot over the left field fence to give MC (19-6-1) the lead for good.
Dominguez also hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning and finished with six RBI in the game. Aaliyah Hunter was 3-for-5 with four runs scored; Lauren De La Cruz was 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored, while Tajanae Davis and Aliyah Lara each added two hits. Lara also had two RBI for the Lady Chaps.
Emily Maddox got the win in the circle.
Cisco out-hit MC 12-5 in the first game as Lauren De La Cruz had two of the hits for MC with a solo home run. Dominguez also hit a solo shot in the game.
Lucy Carney took the loss for MC after giving up three runs on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.
The Lady Chaps next begin Western Junior College Athletic Conference play with a home-and-home series against Western Texas College. MC goes to Snyder a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, before the series switches to Lady Chaps Field at 1 p.m. Saturday.
