SOFTBALL: Lady Chaps Will Open WJCAC Play Against Western Texas College

MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Midland College softball will open play in the 2022 WJCAC season versus Western Texas College. On Friday, April 1st the Lady Chaps will travel to Snyder for a double-header with the Lady Westerners. Friday's game times are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the Western Texas College campus. The two teams will move games to Midland on Saturday, April 2nd at Lady Chaps Field; also at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
MC enters the weekend with a 19-6-1 record, including a non-conference split with Cisco College on Wednesday in Midland (L, 6-2; W, 15-9). The Lady Westerners enter the series with a 16-12 overall record, including 2-2 in conference. WTC opened conference last weekend versus Frank Phillips College.
Midland College can be offensively potent as evidenced by their .363 team batting average and 43 total home runs in 2022. By contrast Western Texas College is hitting .378 with 22 total homers this season. Midland College head coach, Angel Castro, would like to see the Lady Chaps put together a solid weekend across the board. Pitching and defense have showed inconsistencies this season, particularly defensive errors. The Lady Chaps will need to clean up errors in order to play with the top teams in the conference. This weekend will be a good test for the Ladies.
The Lady Chaps expect production at the plate from freshmen Zoey De Baca and Lauren De La Cruz as well as returning players Gisselle Dominguez, Aaliyah Hunter and Tajanae Davis. Each are hitting over .400 this season with De La Cruz, Davis and Dominguez recording 10,10 and nine homeruns each on the season. Midland College will lean on sophomore Emily Maddux to lead the young Lady Chaps pitching staff as they enter the conference portion of the season.
