MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Midland College softball team completed a series sweep of El Paso Community College on Saturday with 9-1 and 19-9 victories at Lady Chaps Field.
The Lady Chaparrals (25-12-1, 6-6 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first game and overcame five errors.
MC got a strong pitching performance from Emily Maddux, who allowed one unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts over five innings.
Tajanae Davis led the MC offense by going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored; Jana Bradshaw was also 3-for-3 with three RBI; and Isabella Slape was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
MC scored 12 runs in the bottom of the first in the second game to run-rule its second contest of the afternoon in five innings.
EPCC (10-22, 2-14) out-hit MC 14-12 and pulled within 12-9 with five runs in the top of the fourth, before MC put the game away with a seven-run bottom of the fourth.
Lauren De La Cruz was 2-for-4 with a grand slam, five RBI and two runs scored for MC. Ciera Avila also hit a grand slam and added a double as part of her 2-for-3 game. Lee grad Gisselle Dominguez was 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored; while Zoey De Baca and Chanel Esparza each drove in two runs.
De Baca also got the win in the circle, while Maddux pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
The Lady Chaps next host Clarendon College in a four-game series beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Friday.
