SOFTBALL: Lady Chaps split at FPC
The Midland College softball team split a doubleheader against Frank Phillips College on Friday, winning the first game 17-2, before dropping the second game in an eight-inning heartbreaker, 7-6.

BORGER, TEXAS - The Midland College softball team split a doubleheader against Frank Phillips College on Friday, winning the first game 17-2, before dropping the second game in an eight-inning heartbreaker, 7-6.
The Lady Chaparrals (29-14-1, 10-8 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference) had 11 hits and had a seven-run second inning to beat the Lady Plainsmen in five innings in the first game.
Jana Bradshaw (3-for-4) and Ciera Avila each drove in four runs as Bradshaw had three doubles and Avila hit a grand slam in the first inning. Zoey De Baca was also 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored for the Lady Chaps.
Emily Maddux got the win in the circle.
MC and Frank Phillips (11-31, 6-12) were tied at 6-all in the eighth inning when the Lady Plainsmen had a 1-out single to win the game.
The Lady Chaps led 6-3 through five innings before FPC rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie it and force extra innings.
Lauren De La Cruz led MC by going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI; Tajanae Davis hit a solo home run; and Jasmine Garcia added two hits.
The teams will play another doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.
