SOFTBALL: Lady Chaps split series at FPC

BORGER, TEXAS - The Midland College softball team came away with a series split after a doubleheader split at Frank Phillips College on Saturday.
The Lady Chaparrals lost 11-10 in nine innings before winning 15-5 in a run-rule for a 2-2 series split.
For second straight game, the Lady Chaps (30-15-1, 11-9 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference) suffered an extra-inning, walk-off loss in Saturday's first game. The teams were tied at 9-all through eight innings, before MC took a 10-9 lead on a sacrifice fly by Zoey De Baca in the top of the ninth. But the Lady Plainsmen (12-32, 7-13) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the inning to get the win.
FPC out-hit MC 17-13 in the game and overcame four errors.
Zoey de Baca was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and a run scored for MC. Jana Bradshaw was 3-for-4; Gisselle Dominguez had two doubles and two RBI; Chanel Esparza had a home run and two RBI; and Aaliyah Hunter had two hits with a triple and three runs scored.
Lucy Carney took the loss in relief.
The Lady Chaps bounced back in the second game thanks to 19 hits and taking advantage of six errors.
DeBaca had two hits with a double, four RBI and two runs scored; Tajanae Davis was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored; Aliyah Lara was 4-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored; Ciera Avila was 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI and two runs scored; Hunter had two hits; and Kaitlyn Gonzales was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.
Samantha Rodriguez got the win in the circle.
The Lady Chaps will close out the regular season with a home-and-home series against rival Odessa College, beginning with a 1 p.m. Friday doubleheader at Lady Chaps Field.
