SOFTBALL: Lady Chaps Focus on NJCAA Region 5 West Tournament

MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Midland College softball team concluded the regular season and now focuses their sights on the upcoming NJCAA Region 5 West Tournament in Lubbock.  The Lady Chaps finished the regular season with a 31-18-1 overall record, third in the conference behind conference champion Odessa College and runner-up Howard College. 

The Region 5 West Tournament brings together the top six WJCAC teams in a double-elimination event with the champion qualifying for the NJCAA Division I Softball Tournament (May 24-28, 2022) in Yuma, AZ.  In their opening round game, Midland College will take on Frank Phillips College, the #6 seed, on Friday at 3:00 p.m.  As previously mentioned Odessa College goes in as the #1 seed, Howard #2, Midland College #3, Western Texas College #4, Clarendon College #5 and Frank Phillips as the #6 seed. 

Friday's action begins at 12:30 p.m. with Clarendon College (16-26) versus Western Texas College (24-24), followed by Frank Phillips College (12-36) and Midland College at 3:00 p.m.  The CC/WTC winner will advance to take on Odessa College (48-4) on Friday at 5:30 p.m.  with the winner of the FPC/MC moving on to play Howard College (37-9) on Friday at 8:00 p.m.  MC split their conference series with Frank Phillips, in Borger, with two wins each.    

Midland College has a .356 team Batting Average while recording a .418 On Base Percentage.  The Lady Chaps rank in the Top 20 NJCAA team statistical rankings in several offensive categories:  18^th in Runs Scored (456), 13^th in Doubles (120), 13^th in Home Runs (78), 17^th in RBI, 13^th in Extra Base Hits, 19^th in Total Bases and 19^th in Slugging Percentage.

The team's post-season success hangs largely on their ability to keep errors to a minimum and the collective efforts of the pitching staff.
