SOFTBALL: Lady Chaps split at WJCAC Tournament
The Midland College softball split on the first day of the WJCAC/Region V West Tournament at Lubbock Christian University on Friday.

LUBBOCK, TEXAS - The Midland College softball split on the first day of the WJCAC/Region V West Tournament at Lubbock Christian University on Friday.
The Lady Chaparrals opened with a 9-6 victory over Frank Phillips College, but then lost 11-5 to rival Howard College in the quarterfinal round.
Against Frank Phillips, Zoey De Baca led an 11-hit attack from the Lady Chaparrals by going 3-for-4 with a triple, four RBI and a run scored. Ciera Avila homered and drove in three runs; while Tajanae Davis was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
MC led 9-1 through four innings before Frank Phillips scored five runs late.
Emily Maddux got the win in the circle.
The Lady Chaps (32-19-1) scored all their runs against Howard in the top of the second inning. Howard answered in the bottom half with a four-run frame for a 6-5 lead and then added six more unanswered runs to put the game away.
MC was held to six hits as Lauren De La Cruz went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. De Baca added two hits and had a double.
De Baca suffered the loss in the circle.
Howard (39-9) had 10 hits as Olivia Vargas was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, RBI and two runs scored. Sasha Willems had two hits with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored.
Alicia Estrada picked up the win in relief.
MC next plays Clarendon College in an elimination game at 3 p.m. Saturday, while Howard plays Odessa College, a 9-1 winner over Western Texas College, in the semifinal round at 5:30 p.m
