Lady Chaps Softball Takes Three of Four in WJCAC Ending Series, Heads to NJCAA Region 5 West Tournament

The Midland College Lady Chaps hosted El Paso Community College in the final, WJCAC series of the regular season. MC won three of the four games outscoring the Tejanas 51-13. Each of the three wins coming via run rule. With the wins Midland College improved to 44-11 overall and finished conference 19-5 in 2024. The 44 regular season wins and 19 conference wins were the highest win totals in the four-year Midland College tenure of head coach Angel Castro.
Saturday's double-header were the final home games in the Midland College careers of five team members. Jordyn Westenskow (Austin, TX), Azalea Ramos (San Antonio, TX), Clarissa Estrada (Uvalde, TX), Madison Stewart (Wolfforth, TX) and Lauren Lopez (San Antonio, TX) were honored in a ceremony following Saturday's second game. Sophomore Cerenity Hunkin, due to an injury during her freshman season, is eligible to return for a second season of competition.
Statistically, the Lady Chaps ranked among the nation's to 25 teams in 15 statistical categories: 3rd in walks (256), 4th in shutouts (17), 6th in runs scored (554) and doubles(133), 7th in hit by pitches (54) and runs batted in (496), 9th in extra base hits (225) and on base percentage (.474), 10th in slugging percentage (.637), 11th in total bases (962), 12th in home runs (81) and walks/hits per inning pitched (1.19), 17th total hits (564), 18th in sac flies (24), 20th in batting average (.374) and batting average against (.255).
In the NJCAA Divison I individual statistical rankings, freshmen Katelynn Perez ranks T-13th in batting average at .500 followed by freshman Madyson Bradley who ranks 44th with a .470 batting average.
MC pitching has been solid all year with freshman Emma Lovato ranked 13th in wins with 21 while Perez ranks 30th with 17 pitching victories. Lovato also ranks #3 nationally in strikeouts with 376 in 32 total appearances.
NJCAA Region 5 West Softball Tournament:
The MC Lady Chaps softball team secured the #2 seed in this weekend's NJCAA Region 5 West Tournament (May 9-11) in Lubbock, TX on the campus of Lubbock Christian University. Midland College will receive a first round bye in the six team, double-elimination tournament format and will await the winner the of Western Texas College vs. El Paso Community College contest. Midland College will play the winner of WTC/EPCC on Thursday, May 9th @ 8:00 p.m.
