The Midland College Lady Chaps traveled to Kenedy, TX for a four-game weekend of play to open the 2025 season.  On Friday the Lady Chaps took on the host team, Coastal Bend College in a 9:30 a.m. matchup followed by an 11:30 game versus Lamar State College at Port Arthur.  

In the season opening game, Midland College jumped out to a first inning lead, 2-0 and added another run in the top of the second inning to take control of the game by a score of 3-0.  The Lady Chaps recorded two additional runs in the 4th inning and finished off the game with a run in the top of the 7th to defeat the Cougars, 6-0.  MC recorded nine hits in the game and held CBC to two total runs.  

Freshman pitcher Tessia Guzman (Amarillo, TX) threw a complete game scattering two hits over seven innings to pick up the win.  Sophomore shortstop, Erikha Subia went 3-3 with one RBI in the contest.  

Lamar State posted a run in the top of the first inning however Midland College responded by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Unfortunately, the Lady Chaps gave up four runs in the top of the third inning, while scoring one run to bring the score to a 5-5 knot.  MC score two runs in the bottom of the sixth to once again take the lead.  The Seahawks posted two runs of their own to tie the game at 7-7 at the end of seven innings.  

LSC-PA took the lead for the first time in the game with three runs in the top of the 8th inning.  Midland College couldn't find an answer in the bottom of the frame and suffered a 10-7 loss in the season's second game.  MC sophomore Katelynn Perez took the loss, recording three strikeouts in relief of freshman starter Marie Rondeau.  

Midland College is scheduled to play Alvin Community College on Saturday, January 25th @ 9:00 a.m. followed by an opportunity to repay Lamar State College - PA in a 2:00 p.m. rematch.
