The Midland College softball team continued their winning ways with a four-game sweep versus Western Texas College in the 2025 WJCAC opening games for both teams. Midland College, 27-4 on the season, is currently 4-0 in the WJCAC after last weekend's games.
Midland College hosted Western Texas College on Friday in Midland, winning the double-header with scores of 5-2 and 10-5. The series moved to Snyder on Saturday with a double-header hosted by WTC. Midland College defeated the Lady Westerners, 6-3 and 17-6.
MC received strong performances by sophomore Katelynn Perez who picked up two complete game wins, improving her record to 10-1 this season. Perez, a sophomore from Los Fresnos, TX, recorded nine strikeouts in each of her two starts versus the Lady Westerners.
Freshman outfielder Brianna Flores went a combined 8-14 over four games, including a double, two RBI and two stolen bases. San Antonio Sonya Sotomayor High School product, Flores, currently ranks 15th nationally with a batting average of .506. She also extended her consecutive game hitting streak to 14 games. Sophomore infielder Jayci Johnson went a combined 8-13, with 5 RBI, one HR and a double over four games versus WTC.
The Lady Chaps will enjoy an extended 10-game break from competition due to a canceled double-header versus the University of the Southwest and a WJCAC schedule open date on March 29-30. MC will return to the diamond when they host Wayland Baptist University on Tuesday, April 1st. The team returns to conference play on April 4th and 5th when they host Frank Phillips College in a four-game series.
Friday, April 4th will be Midland College Employee Appreciation Day at Lady Chaps Field. Two employees will be selected to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, "Las Chaps" t-shirts will be given to fans and 100 brisket sandwiches (courtesy Odessa Charcuterie) will be given to those in attendance at the double-header.
The Lady Chaps continued their impressive 23 game win streak. MC has won 26 of their last 27 games.
